Put Human Connection At The Top Of Your Résumé

It took me 40 years, but I have recently made the unlock that my superpower, my highest gift, is not public speaking, writing, running a business, or really any skill that LinkedIn or Indeed would deem "résumé worthy."

My superpower is human connection in real life.

My superpower is being able to walk into a room and make people feel just a little bit better about being in that room and just a little bit better about being themselves.

This doesn’t mean being the loudest voice in the room, or the person that is going to get on a microphone and lead a team-building game (full disclosure: I don't even like team-building games!).

It just means putting out a vibe that says, "I care about the other people in this room."

I used to think that whenever I was hopping on a call for someone to pick my brain, or having lunch with someone, or attending an event where I wasn’t speaking, that I was "wasting time."

I now realize that all the calls, all the lunches, all the time I spend connecting—which is much of how I spend my days, is not wasting time, it is quite literally, MY WORK. It’s me doing my job with other people.

Perhaps the best way to avoid being replaced by AI is to always be connecting, always be caring, and always be creating something dynamic, different, and beautiful with other human beings.

Perhaps the best way to avoid being replaced by AI is to put human connection at the top of your résumé.
